This is my class room. 

This is where I learn English.

In my classroom, there is a big window.

There are nine chairs.

There is a desk.

There is a whiteboard and a clock on the wall.

There is a tape. The tape is on the desk.

There is a dustbin. It's next to the desk.

There are five lamps on the ceiling.

Can you describe your classroom? But you might want to see this picture first.

Use there is with singular nouns. Use there are with plural nouns.

There's a pen on the desk.

There's a pencil and an eraser on the desk.

There are five thumbtacks on the bulletin board.

Use a lot of and a plural noun to talk about a large number.

There are a lot of books on the bookshelf - 20, I think!

[Description] Describing Clothes

Last Monday, I learned about describing clothes:

I	+	am	+	wearing	+	a	+	print	T-shirt
She		is		wearing		a		pink	cardigan
He		is		wearing		a		blue checked	shirt

I	+	am	+	wearing	+	blue	jeans
She		is		wearing		white	shoes
He		is		wearing		black	pants
They		are		wearing		boots

[Description] My Favourite Korean Idol - Part 2

We can also describe someone's physical appearance by using nouns. 

This my favourite Korean idol.

Her name is Victoria Song.

She has got an oval face.

She has got a pretty face.

She has got a beautiful smile.

She has got long, straight, black hair.

She has got big, black eyes.

She has got a pointed nose.

She has got slender legs.

Please notice that we use has got before the noun.

I	+	have got	+	an oval face
He	+	has got	+	blue eyes
She	+	has got	+	short, curly, blond hair
		has / have got		noun

[Description] My Favourite Korean Idol - Part 1

Have you got any favourite singers? What does he/she look like? Can you describe his/her physical appearance? We can describe someone's physical experience by using adjectives. 

This is one of my favourite singers/idols. 
His name is Nichkhun Horvejkul.  
He is tall.
He is muscular.
He is strong.
He is good looking and attractive.
His skin is fair.
His hair is straight and blond.
His eyes are black.
His nose is pointed.

Please notice that we use to be before the adjective:

He	+	is	+	tall
His hair	+	is	+	straight and blond
His eyes	+	are	+	black
		to be		adjective

Some adjectives we can use to describe someone's physical appearance:

Complexion	fair, dark
Height	tall, short,
Age	old, young, elderly, middle aged
Build/figure	small, tiny, big, stocky, muscular, skinny, slim, slender, plump, fat, obese, strong, thin, stout, bent, flabby, thinning
Looks	attractive, beautiful, charming, pretty, cute, cool, sexy, plain, ugly
Hair	short, long, medium, curly, wavy, kinky, blond, brunette, grey
Eyes	small, big, bright, dark, blue
Face	long, oval, square, round
Nose	small, flat, pointed, aquiline
Cheeks	chubby
Shoulders	narrow, broad

I got those adjective list from my teacher few years ago, I added some adjectives.

[Description] Where is Bandar Lampung?

Describing location can puzzle me sometimes. What do you think of these 'patterns'?

Where's A?

It's     near B

It's     in C

It's     on the     river X   

It's     on the     coast of Y

It's xx km     south     of Z

It's xx km     north     of Z

It's in     East Java

It's in     the east of West Java

It's east of Java

               

First time I read those patterns, my first reaction was 'HUH?!?!'. Some of them were confusing for me. Thanks to my friends, I've got better understanding now. So, let me try to describe the location of my home town based on those patterns. 

Where is Bandar Lampung?

It’s in Lampung Province. Bandar Lampung as a part of Lampung Province.

It’s in the south of Lampung. Bandar Lampung is located in the south part of Lampung (note: south of Lampung = south part of Lampung; South Lampung = one of regencies in Lampung)

It’s on the coast of Lampung. Coast = land beside the sea.

It’s south of Palembang. Bandar Lampung is not the part of Palembang. We can say, if you're in Palembang and you want to go to Bandar Lampung, you have to go to the south.

It’s 290 km south of Palembang. Almost similar with the previous description. But, based on this description, you find out that Palembang and Bandar Lampung are 290 km away.

 

It's in Lampung Province = Bandar Lampung (terletak) di Provinsi Lampung (bagian dari Provinsi Lampung.

It's in the south of Lampung = terletak di Lampung bagian selatan (catt: BUKAN/BERBEDA dengan terletak di Kabupaten Lampung Selatan).

It's on the coast of Lampung = terletak di bagian pesisir Lampung.

It's south of Palembang = terletak di sebelah selatan Palembang (BUKAN di Palembang bagian selatan). 

It's 290 km south of Palembang = terletak (berjarak) 290 km  sebelah selatan Palembang.

 I tried my best to give brief explanation. I hope it's useful.
